Name: Astrid Thomassen
Age: 27
Ethnicity: Norwegian
Personality: Astrid is a strong-willed woman who speaks when she knows someone will actually listen to what she has to say. If someone wants her opinion for something, she'll state what she thinks in black and white. She's the kind of person who doesn't believe in "beating around the bush". Sugar-coating her words is something someone will never hear her do. She's very serious and has little tolerance for foolish behavior. She's less annoyed when such actions come from kids, though, since they are supposed to be...well, childish.
She likes to think things through before acting. She doesn't like to rush things and doesn't mind taking her time when trying to get things done. If someone tries to talk her into speeding up her pace, she'll just continue doing things her way. She's pretty stubborn, once she has an opinion it will take a really long for her to change it...if she ever does. Usually once she thinks about something a certain way, she'll continue to think of it that way.
She tries to not let her emotions, or fears, get in the way of what she needs to do. She feels more comfortable when no one knows her personal feelings, not to mention she doesn't want said feelings to be used against her. She isn't afraid of being hurt in some way, instead it's more like she's brave enough to distance herself from any conflicting emotions she might feel. Conflicting emotions are a part of human nature, yes, but they make things more complicated than necessary.
She has a bit of a melancholic aura around her from time to time. It's as if she's stuck in some part of the past, something she just can't get over. When asked about it, she'll refuse to speak a word of it and will change the subject entirely. Many don't know about what happened and she wants to keep it that way. It doesn't concern them, and whatever happened is over and done with. Even then, she can't help but remember and wonder if there was a chance for things to go differently.
Ship/Island/Authority: whatever ship the Nordics are on yo
Occupation:
History: Born into an average family, her childhood was as normal as they come. Her parents owned a small bookstore close to the shore on St. Aislinn Island. She spent most of her days borrowing a book or two, reading them as she sat on the sand and listened to the waves crash. She loved being so close to the ocean, the smell of the saltwater was one of her favorites. From time to time she would even look for shells, bringing them back home and adding them to her collection. She was a sweet child, a bit distant but still as adorable as they come.
As she grew older, she tried to make up for the years when she was small by trying to make friends. She succeeded, though the total she made was on the small side, and she was content with that. She didn't speak much when she was around them, but she did try her best to get to know them better nonetheless. Of course, back then she had no intent on leaving the island. It was her home, she was going to take over the book store and settle down. Perhaps she can even raise a family, though the idea of becoming a parent was terrifying to her then and even now, though the reason why for both times are different. What made her give up those dreams to live her life out on the open sea? Simple, she fell in love.
No, she didn't fall in love with a pirate and wished to be by his side until the end of her days. That only happens in romance novels, ones that she might have accidentally picked up in her youth. This was completely different. It was more along the lines of being pulled right of a novel that would end in tragedy. Most people would put the start of this story at when they first met, but honestly the meeting has nothing to do with it. It's when she first realized her love for him, and his for her. Whens, hows, and other details aren't important, only the fact that such a thing happened.
Well, things do lead to other things and, well, she got pregnant. She was so nervous, constantly worrying over things that could happen. There was so many possibilities that could happen, some more worse than others. She was a nice age of 24 at the time, but she was by no means ready to have a child. What if she screwed up? What if she had a miscarriage? What if she died in labor? Such thoughts haunted her night and day, but in the end everything went perfectly fine. The baby boy was healthy, she was alive as ever, her love was by her side, what could possibly go wrong now? She was happy with her life, it seemed impossible for anything to go wrong.
The baby's name was Zakaria, and he was the center of Astrid's world. She did everything she could for him, he was her first and only child after all. He mostly resembled her, with the same dark blue eyes and light blond hair. He was her little angel that she loved more than anything. Then, he was taken right from her arms. He had fallen ill during his second year, and nothing seemed to help him get better. Naturally, the mother tried everything to help her sick baby. She went all over, looking for someone who could save him. Her efforts were in vain, little Zakaria dying before his second birthday.
Astrid was overwhelmed with grief. She blamed herself for the death of her young one. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't fully move on. She still holds onto his favorite toy, a pink stuffed rabbit. She kept more to herself, thinking it was best for her to get through it by herself. As much as people may say that she should let it go, they don't really do anything but remind her. One thing was for sure, as long as she stayed on the island the more she will cling onto the past, which is why she decided to become a pirate. She wanted to leave her past behind and start anew, in some sense. Even though it's only been a little less than a year, she's determined to keep moving forward.
